Eclipse:

Steven Livingston was born to a family of explorers. Both his mother and father had a driving passion for exploration. Not even her pregnancy with him could keep her away from exploring. When he was born, they were both in South America exploring the jungle areas there. Because of this constant absence of his parents, he had learned to depend on himself and to not look to others for help. During a summer he was with his parents exploring a South American village when they encountered a plane on their way back to the base camp. This plane had crash-landed years ago and looked to be undisturbed since the crash. His father and mother had managed to collect enough information on the occupants so that they were able to send notification to their families. They also were able to collect some trinkets from the cargo section. It appeared that this plane was used in drug smuggling from the cache of marijuana found on board. Both parents had thought nothing of the trinkets, which included a necklace, wristband, and ring. All three had been found by the father wrapped in a black silken cloth inside a black and green wooden box. They had found this rather unique and kept the items for this find.

Several years had passed and Steven didnt know what he wanted to do with his life. It took the intervention of his Uncle, a Supreme Court justice to put his life into some meaning and to give him some direction in his life. His uncle had suggested the he should go into law. Steven took his uncles advice and went onto law school. Upon graduation, his uncle had gotten him started as a prosecuting attorney. He found that he really loved his job and wanted to make sure that all the criminals that came across his desk got the full extent of the law. He didnt like lawless people and really developed a passion for corrupt police officers when one day he came upon a police officer who had obviously pulled over a motorist. Steven had noticed that this was a strange place to pull someone over in an alley. That went against the normal procedures that the police adhered to for their own safety. He managed to get close enough to hear the conversation. To his surprise, the officer was agreeing to receive oral sex for the dismissal of the ticket. After the act was over, the officer did indeed let the motorist go. Steven had written down the patrol car number and had filed a report with the Internal Affairs Division for the Police Dept. He made sure that this officer was fired from his job and received a sentence for this act. He could not tolerate that an officer of the law would abuse his position like this. In fact, over the years he has developed a distinct dislike for those officers. He had found that he felt quite above the people and scum that surrounded him. He did however feel a certain responsibility for his niece. She is a public defender and granddaughter to his uncle. She is just one of those people who obviously didnt have a clue how to handle her job. He took it upon himself to help her put together cases and to show her how to win those cases. He is the older brother she never had and friend that she needs.

It wasn't until his mother and father were killed in a car accident that things in his life changed dramatically. They had been killed by a freak accident when the brakes on the car had failed. As Steven was going through their things he came upon the chest they had found in the jungle. When he opened it, he took a liking to the pendant and put it on. When he did this, he felt a surge of energy course through his body. He found after many hours of experimentation that this pendant would allow him to change his size and shape. He took to calling himself Chameleon and began his career as a superhero in Chicago. Now he could fight and punish those people that they law didnt get a chance to. The leader Spectrum offered him a spot on the newly formed Crusaders. At first, he was reluctant, but after a short period of time adapted to the idea and joined willingly.

A short time afterwards he had been captured and his pendant was subjected to intense radioactivity treatments to determine its makeup. Steven dove into the radiation treatment and his body chemistry was changed during that. No longer can he shape and size change, now he projects this dark physical energy from his body. He now calls himself Eclipse for when he uses his powers, he can block out most any light form. He is the current leader of the Crusaders having won his second reelection to that post.
